Amstel Malta Celebrates Abia Women, Awards Business Grants at 2026 August Meeting

Amstel Malta has celebrated the resilience and community contributions of women in Abia State, awarding business grants to five female entrepreneurs and partnering with Zaron Cosmetics to provide beauty gifts to attendees at the 2026 August Meeting in Umuahia.

The event, held on Friday, August 28, at the New Government House, Umuahia, brought together women from across Abia and beyond as part of the annual August Meeting tradition that sees women return to their communities to reconnect, deliberate on development issues and support initiatives that improve the lives of their people.

For Amstel Malta, the gathering provided an opportunity to move beyond the traditional celebration of women and recognise their economic contributions, entrepreneurial ambitions and commitment to community development.

At the event, the brand awarded business grants to five women to support the growth of their businesses and help them pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions.

The initiative was complemented by similar empowerment efforts by the Abia State Government, with the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Mrs Maureen Ijeoma Aghukwa, also presenting business grants to female entrepreneurs.

Governor Alex Otti and the First Lady, Mrs Priscilla Chidinma Otti, were among dignitaries present at the gathering.

The August Meeting remains one of the most significant community traditions in the South-East, providing a platform through which women, including those living outside their home communities, return annually to participate in social, economic and developmental activities.

For many women, the meeting represents more than a social gathering. It offers an opportunity to reconnect with their roots, strengthen relationships, contribute financially and materially to community projects and discuss issues affecting families and communities.

Amstel Malta's participation added a lifestyle and empowerment dimension to this year's gathering.

The brand also partnered with Zaron Cosmetics to distribute specially curated beauty packs to attendees, reinforcing its message that women who devote considerable time and energy to their families and communities should also have opportunities to celebrate themselves.

The partnership with Zaron follows a similar collaboration at last year's August Meeting and reflects the two brands' continued focus on creating experiences around confidence, self-care and women's empowerment.

Speaking at the event, Senior Brand Manager, Amstel Malta, Francis Obiajulu, said the August Meeting demonstrated the impact women could make when they came together around a common purpose.

“August Meeting is a great example of what happens when women come together with purpose and a shared commitment to their communities,” Obiajulu said.

He said Amstel Malta was proud to participate in occasions that recognised women beyond their everyday responsibilities and created opportunities for them to feel appreciated.

According to him, the partnership with Zaron brought an additional dimension to the celebration by reminding women to make time for themselves while continuing to support their families and communities.

“We are delighted to bring this experience to the women of Abia and to continue creating meaningful moments that encourage them to look good, feel good and be their best,” he said.

Zaron Cosmetics Senior Manager, Marketing and Communication, Aderinsola Adetunji, said the company was pleased to continue working with Amstel Malta to celebrate women who sustain families and communities.

She noted that women often give extensively to the people around them, making platforms such as the August Meeting an important opportunity to encourage them to also prioritise themselves.

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Amstel Malta to celebrate the women who make the August Meeting such a meaningful tradition,” Adetunji said.

The Abia activation follows Amstel Malta's participation in the August Meeting in Enugu earlier in August, where the brand similarly celebrated women's achievements and contributions to their communities.

The continued presence of the brand at the gatherings signals an attempt to build its engagement with women around platforms that have deep cultural and community significance in the South-East.

Through the business grants, the brand's activities also linked celebration with practical economic support, particularly for women seeking to expand businesses and strengthen their livelihoods.

The 2026 Abia August Meeting therefore offered a convergence of tradition, community development, entrepreneurship and personal celebration, with Amstel Malta positioning its intervention around its broader message of encouraging women to look good, feel good and be their best.
